I have to run to the hardware store and look for strong metal. The neighbor came by to tell me she has a mama coon with 2 kits treed in her yard. I have 6 chickies in a (supposed to be temporary) hoop coop. I am thinking a mama coon could get in there if she was so inclined.
Heavy wire and some plywood for the end should do the trick.
I was not looking to keep the thing so I did not make it super sturdy. The surplus chickens were supposed to get sold at a bird swap but no one was buying.

Off to work on the thing.

and it is hot out right now.

We started with 10. We currently have 16, but our flock has been as big as 24. I have had to let people adopt roosters a few times.

21 hens its miserable here in texas too. The remnants of Bill finally played out Now the humidity is deadly

Man it is just yucky outside. I am not used to the humidity so it really hits me hard. All this rain we have had has made it like living in the swamp.

Hardware cloth..... check
Tie wire..... check
Cage clips..... check
special pliers..... check

Now just for some shade and perhaps a second set of hands. LOL not going to happen I fear.
I will be on my own to do this since DH is at work.

Make sure to drink LOTS of water.Ive had a heat stroke. You never recover

That is why I am waiting on the shade. I too suffer from the heat beyond reason. It can be 75 degrees and I am miserable. Heat is one thing I will not play with. One place I worked thought it was a good idea to put roof mount swamp coolers inside and close the place up to keep dust out. It would be 9 am and 105 degrees with 90% or more humidity. I got very sick from it.

I fell out at work a few months back from heat exhaustion. When i had the heat stroke i was in the hospital for three days.
