Chicken math

Butchered some young cockerels myself plus a hen that wasn't laying last week. Minus 5. Have 6 silkie chicks hatch over last 2 days. So, I'm still up one. Think I'm done till next year but looking forward to late winter chicken planning.

Just found out my best friend has an incubator.....

we had the start of 12 from my uncle for free lost 8 to our dogs, down to 4 got 10 from a lady a few hours away for free, lost 4 to winter got 5 babies and their 'mom' lost a baby. got 6 more babies this spring then had about 17 lost 2 this spring and yesterday lost 5 two babies and three hens while free roaming not sure from what animal. down to 13 total and now my dads coming home with 25 chicks!!!!! and we started last fall we wanted total of 15 to 20 to now well 38... dad wanted the most of 30 oh well!!! they are so cute and fluffy how can he say no?!?

Watch out, the disease takes a strangle hold when incubators come into play. I have resisted the urge to get a second incubator so far!

Oh wow crazy cat ladies have nothing on you guys

We've just got our first chickens originally wanted 4..then 6..went to the poultry centre and came home with 10.. and 5 ducks..they're totally addictive there's way too many great chickens out there!
If we had more room I think I'd struggle to keep a lid on buying more.

Yes once an incubator is used you justify hatching chicks by saying "Oh I will sell most of the chicks". Sure you will!
I have hatched 49 this year with 14 more to hatch next week and most likely 1 more batch after that. Have I sold any chicks? No way. And I bought 18 of someone elses chicks!

Well along to the many other chicks I got this year, I just ordered 4 chicks for My Pet Chicken. I got 1 mottled cochin bantam, 1 mille fleur d'uccle bantam, 1 white crested black polish bantam, and 1silver lakenvelder. I am probably also am going to get some fertile eggs for my broody silkie to hatch. I feel like I take advantage of whenever one of my hens goes broody.......
