Hey I'm not very familiar with chickens. My mom has five females. I noticed one that has been laying a lot the past two days. and when she walks she sometimes has to use her wings. She's slower than normal, doesnt perch at night and seems to have runny yucky poop. Any ideas what may be wrong?? the others seem fine except one other one may be molting, lost soooo many feathers and they seem to be growing back in possibly but they almost look like porcupine quills coming in and a few of them have blood on the top of them.

HELP PLEASE

By laying a lot do you mean spending a lot of time in the nesting box or laying a lot of eggs? That kind of walking sounds like she could be egg bound.
As for the poop, a picture is usually helpful on here. I'm not an expert either so hopefully someone else can help you more. I do know that if she is egg bound you will be able to feel it but you have to be very very careful.

I’m not sure if she’s laying eggs or not. She’s just been laying on the ground a lot. And egg bound meaning stuck? Do you know what we can do to help? She’s definitely not her normal self at all going to get pics

Here’s some pics

Almost looks like her bottom half is laying lower but I really can’t tell.

I just posted four or five pics

Egg bound means the egg is stuck. Sometimes a warm bath helps but you'll have to pick her up and feel very gently near her vent and see if you can feel the egg first. The poop looks concerning if its like that consistently. Let me see if I can figure out how to tag someone who knows more than I do.

How old is she? Is she molting as well? It sounds like her pin feathers are being pecked if she is bleeding. Hens who are molting, sick with a reproductive issue, or crop disorder may sit around a lot. Can she not get up to the perch or is she afraid of the others. Have you tried putting her on the roost at night? Sick hens will sometimes not perch or they may remain on the roost in morning after others have gone outside. I would give her a thorough check up, looking her over for lice or mites on her skin, check her crop in early morning to see if it is empty, and check if her lower belly between her legs is enlarged. If she is molting, she may not be laying eggs. Try to get her to take some snacks, such as scrambled egg or tuna, and moistened chicken feed is attractive. Her tail position is up, so that is a good sign.
