Chicken Meet/Swap? Getting More Chickens? Read Here First, Please!

it's also good to note that people have different reasons for keeping chickens and, thus, they may actually want to bring home an adult chicken and not just eggs or peeps.
for example, many people want to rescue adult chickens who need homes. other people want to show chickens and in order to begin with good breeding stock they want to buy well formed adults.
the trick, it seems, is not to avoid adult chickens per se, but to practice good biosecurity regardless of the stage of life of the new chicken.

Thats why I figured they would be ok in here... and they could watch and learn from my other chooks. They would have thier own food and water bowls.

yup!
i think it's awesome you want to give a nice life to some birds that were previously living in a production facility.
practice good bio-security, keep them separate during the entire quarantine process and feel very good that you've done such a kind thing.
it's just my opinion . . .

Who else thinks they will be ok in here with only mesh seperating them from my main flock?

MissPrissy, not knocking what you were saying, but it would be difficult to find another coup and fence off an area for them.

Just know it is a risk you take, Ed. They may be fine. But if you find yourself in a position with sick chickens 4 - 8 weeks down the road you'll have a clue as to why.

I don't take the risk.

Great original post MissPrissy.
I can't wait til we get a place in the country and can have separate coops. I want one just for quarantine, even if it won't get used alot it'd be a good thing to have.
