Chicken mystery

    For the past 1 or 2 months my chickens have been breaking feathers everywhere even wing feathers one of ny chickens Honey has broken all of her wing feathers.

    And if things couldn't get weirder we found scabs on Oreo and Honey

    But then things got even weirder yesterday we found this terrible looking bloody gash on her back but was weird about it was the feathers had been pulled or torn out and the only blood was coming out through the feather holes

    And on top of that Honey's feet are turning black!

    Please tell me what is going on and how I can stop it I hate seeing my chickens unhealthy!

    They may require a better diet. It could be a molt and the scabs are probably from picking at each other. Perhaps you can provide more food and treats. I would also recommend doing an inspection to your coop and run to assure their predator proofing. They hens could be pecking each other due to stress from say, an Opposum or cat trying to get at them. Black dirty feet are pretty standard for chickens that wonder the yard or have mud or dirt in their run --no worries. Feather holes bleed when feathers have been pecked out.


    When was the last time you dusted your birds? DE is a great option in case you have mites, in which case you'll need to wash out the coop and run and then disinfect. Mites can also cause the symptoms you've posted.

    I didn't know I had to dust for mites.
    How do you do it?
    I will try doing all the things you recommended.
