Here is a list of what types of chickens we got on 8/31/24 (see the receipt picture).
We have named some and have names for the others, but still learning who is who. LOL

Their names are subject to change (if they have a question mark by the name). The below list is in the same order as the receipt picture. Do you guys have an thoughts on naming? I did upload some pictures into my gallery too.
  1. ? Annett or Lacey
  2. ? Rhoda or Speedy
  3. Roseanne
  4. Sally
  5. ? Pistol
  6. ? Olive
  7. Lavender
  8. ? Blue or Bell
They wone my heart before I even picked them up!

Fun Fact: My husband told me last night: You are the only woman I know who is scared to use a porta pot, but you will crawl through poop for these animals (dogs and chickens). I have actually done it twice this week :) 🙃

🤣

Ok so are you looking for tips on how to pick their names or what their names should be?:)
My #1 tip is to pretend to call to that specific chicken while looking at it by that name that you're trying out, for instance: "Hi Blue" or "come here Blue." And see if it matches the chick. The goal isn't really to see if it responds to it but to see if the name matches it while you are saying the name out loud.

Yes that is how we got Roseanne, it seem to fit. Thank you :)

How about Bluebell? And perhaps Sniper for Pistol?
Everyone has their own system, if all else fails, pick a theme and find names that fit. My theme last year was Scarborough fair (Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme) and this year I went with herbs (Juniper, Ginkgo, Ginger, Vanilla, Basil, Lavender and Chocolate Mint). I also went with ace attorney characters for the stray cats that hang around (mostly the prosecutors). The main ones that hang around are Lana Skye, Maya, Athena and Simon Blackquill (best prosecutor in the series IMO, but I digress). Considering that Lana and Maya recently had kittens I'll have to come up with more names lol

That is great! Thank you.

The thing about names, at first I thought it was just silly (and futile if you have alot of the same breed, look alikes,) but then I realized the value when we're talking to each other about them. The hubs does morning chores, I do evening. So if we need to tell each other something about one of them, names really matter. And to that end I try to have a really diverse flock and keep it short and specific to the chicken color or something about them so I'm not struggling for "who is that?" But of course also have fun. I get names from my kids sometimes. So half my flock named by me, half by the kids looks like: Butter, Goldie, 2Chainz, Fiftycent, Hodor...... lol. Enjoy!!
