OK, I give up on the idea of transferring these names to the first post. What we should really do is write a book!
Nifty? This would make a great addition to the BYC bookstore!
Someone that types better than I needs to do it. Or I could call my youngest son to come over and do it. He flies when he types! I can't even see what keys he's hitting!

I really had to laugh at the Japanese word for chicken!

When I was a kid we had a calf that we named "Toro" (spanish for Bull). He didn't quite make it to full "Bulldom" before he went to freezer camp but he sure was delicious!

I have yet to get my chickens, but soon...so soon! (I am going to burst when I go get them...)

I am glad this thread is here, because I am getting great ideas. So far my favorite group is flowers and bugs(I haven't yet read all the pages though!)...but I was wondering if anyone has named them after numbers? From foreign languages?

My faves:

yksi (ixy)(Finnish for 1) (I am mostly Finnish, and their numbers are a hoot!)

Ena (eh-nah)(Greek for 1)

mmoja (mo-jah) (Swahili for 1)

Nelja (Nell-yah) (Finnish for 4)

So then I thought...what about chicken/hen/rooster in different languages...I didn't even start there or I would be up all night.

And, I am also considering Presidents Wives...(since my birds will eventually be food, I have to steer clear of ones that are the same names as those in my family...some people just don't have a sense of humor!)
Eleanor, Abigail, Elizabeth, Margaret, Harriet, Jane, Lucy, etc.

Why do I do this? It's almost 1 o'clock here and I am thinking about chickens. Again.

Do chickens recognize vowels and consonants? If I named them Lazy and Daisy, would the two know the difference?

I named a few of the sumatra's. The large Roo is Sammy.... after Sammy Davis Jr. The roo talks silly and dances in front of me all the time...so he is Sammy. An old english bantam and sumatra mix is xman..... cause he is a mutant.
