I think the advice that drumstick diva gave you is the most helpful , as I would have done the same.. If you use layer feed then there is sufficient calcium . But be careful not to give layer feed to young chicks and those not laying yet. It could damage their kidneys. Starter feed for that. You want your chickens to be healthy best way you can. I give my chickens oyster shells on the side and they eat it at will to supplement their calcium needs. As far as I know, oyster shells will not hurt young birds, they just wont eat it. It also provides grit in their gizzard to grind their food. I use this cool line whenever someone asks me about oyster shells, " I give them this so they don't get Osteoporosis " which is not far from the truth. Most chickens don't live that long , for it to be a factor. My girls on the other hand live well past social security. ( I don't eat my pets ) . Last one I lost live 13 years.
As for names, have fun with that. The names are way to refer to a particular one in your flock. The chickens wont really come to you if they hear their name, but rather they will come because they hear the tone of your voice. I tell my neighbors why I talk to my pets. This way they are aware if they hear me that, " I didn't loose it totally " and call the guys in the white coats. I never use a name more than once. In the beginning I used chicken related names like, Tyson, Purdue, Jenny as in Jenny o , Nugget. Later as I ran out of those, I used from cartoons and ancient names like Efiteris. As to what to do about that red vent, washing gently with warm water would not do any harm. I washed a few chicken buts before when they were soiled with feces and dried with paper towels. Wishing you success with your flock.
