Chicken nap? Lol

So I went out there at 4:50 pm. It’s not even dark yet, won’t be dark till 7:00. And all my chickens go under the hen house, most start going through their feathers like their “fixing them” and then sat down in the dirt. They weren’t dust bathing because most tucked their head in one wing. The only one not sitting was the head hen, she was staring out of the coop in the middle of them. Now they know where the roost is, they were all roosting this morning. I’m not concerned about this, but I just don’t get it. Lol

Mine will dig a hole and "nap" in it when it is warm outside, since the dirt is cool. Now that we have had some cooler weather, they are roosting and preening again before bedtime.

I've seen mine have the 'evening meeting and preening session' pretty regularly.
