Just want to say hi! I've been reading all the posts for a while so I decided to join the group! We have 5 chicken currently. And they are about 8 months old. We just love them!
4 have been laying for some time now, the other is a freeloader😂. I told them I'd work for food. She's not keeping her part of the bargain.
Their coop is a 5'x4 1/2 ' lean to style thats sits up about 20" off the ground. They have a covered main run ( 6x12 ish) and a channel that leads to a 6x6 ish "play pen" as we call it. They love to dust bathe over there. We live in north central Idaho where the winters are less harsh than most other areas .
Any way "HI"
I do have a question we have the rafters open for venting. They have hardwire cloth on them. With lean to style how do I prevent the wind from entering the coop. I can't move it. But I noticed we have winds at time from the east. And that goes in the coup. From the N, S , and W were good.

Hi! And welcome to BYC!

Hi, thanks for joining us! Ventilation is good to have, the flock will be better for it so I wouldn't close off the rafter venting you have. I used to keep a flock in WY where the winds and winters are wild and never completely closed off the coop from fresh air.
