Hello everybody!

Did this a bit backwards and posted my questions first because I had them written out already. Here's my delayed introduction:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm not even new to chickens because I don't have any (yet). Considering getting a few today and meeting a farmer later in the afternoon to chat and getting a better idea.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I would want 2-3 for starters, mainly because we wouldn't be able to consume more eggs and the garden is not exactly huge.

(3) What breeds do you have?

I want to get Buff Orpingtons as they're supposed to be quiet (happy neighbours) and tame (happy owner)

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Google popped out out!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I like different types of crafts but don't consider myself particularly good at any of them. Sewing, knitting, corcheting, etc.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I'm a full time nursing student and part time fraud analyst. Don't have any children yet but a needy and demanding cat named Odin.

Hello and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. It's a good idea to have a chat with existing chicken owners, prior to getting them yourself.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/category/learning-center.11/ and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

All the best

Welcome to BYC. You will love having them around. Look for gentle birds docile ones that you may be able to walk around and pick up if you want to. Best of luck with picking out some good chickens today.
