Chicken newbie onboard!

Hi, everyone! My name is Mary, and I live in NH w/my husband and 4 sons. We just last week bought our first chickens, 6 little chicks, for eggses, as Gollum would say. I've been wanting to do it for quite a while, dh has wanted to do it for a while, the kids are kind of neither here nor there about it. DH and I are looking at it as part of something we want to do together as retirement is approaching in the next few years, and we are hoping to live a more self-reliant type of life. The chicks seem to be doing quite well so far, and we will have the coop ready by the time they are ready to get into it. I will have lots and lots of questions, I know, and am looking forward to participating here, and someday being somebody who can answer questions instead of just asking them!
