Hello everyone! My husband and I purchased 10 acres 4 years ago. Last year we moved into a little one room cabin we built, and are now in the process of building our forever home. It is very slow going since we are doing it by ourselves.
Anyway, last year we decided to get 4 pullets. 2 are brown sexlinks and 2 are white leghorns. Now that they are grown, we have enjoyed their daily eggs. About 2 months ago, some friends brought us their barred rock rooster that had become too noisy for their city backyard flock. He has been keeping our ladies very busy, so 22 days ago we decided to try to hatch some eggs in our incubator just for fun. So far, we have 4 leghorn eggs that have hatched. 2 of the chicks are solid yellow, the other 2 are yellow with a black spot. Another leghorn egg started to hatch this morning. Any tips or information you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome aboard! :frow
We are glad you joined our flock.

Welcome to BYC from middle Tennessee :welcome To get an idea of what they'll look like when fully feathered checkout this thread. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/easy-chicken-colour-genetic-calculator.757118/ I use a 24% protein chick starter and a sweeter heater for warmth and pine shaving for betting in the brooder. I brood for three weeks then give them five weeks on pasture in a shelter that moves regularly.:frow
Thank you for the warm welcome. I am excited to try the link to see what my chickens may look like and I really appreciate your tips.

IMG_6718.JPG IMG_6716.JPG Up to 6 babies as of tonight. 4 of them have black dots. After reading several articles, I have determined that these chicks should be sexlinks. Just not sure if I read all of the genetic dominance, hereditary trait, scientific stuff correctly. I THINK that if I understood it right, the ones with black markings will be hens. Anyone able to clarify this for me? I truly appreciate any and all comments.

:welcome Nope don't do white chickens .I'm sure the answer is here somewhere . You should be able to feather sex those . the wing feathers will look like these on a pullet . On a roo they will all be the same length so when the primary feathers come in in a few days look at them .
