Hi all from Georgia. I am new to the whole backyard chickens but worked with chickens when I was a kid. Bear in mind that was 30 years ago. My grandparents had a commercial layer chicken house and my uncle Had multiple breeder houses. I started my backyard house for my youngest son so that he could learn a little about raising animals. As I live in a sub-division, I have no roosters. I intended to start my flock with all chick's but was not able to find any one my coop was done. Instead, a friend gave me one adult bird and three young birds. The young boys are about two to three months old. My coop is hands built and is 6x6x12 feet long. I built the coop area about three feet up and it is for feet deep. It accommodates for nesting boxes on one side and a roosting bar on the other. I have had my chickens for two days now and the big bird just will not go into the upper coop. She also has not laid a single egg. Should I be concerned? Also can anyone tell me what breed my birds might be? From looking around the Internet and this site I think they might be Buff orpingtons. Here is a pictures of my boss and my coop

I forgot to mention that my three young birds go up and down the ramp with no problem. I even added runners across the eamp to give the big bird some extra grip on the ramp. I have placed her in the upper part by hand an she walks down the ramp fine. She just refuses to go up the ramp. Even when it rain ed today. She just stays underneath.
