Please dont take that as I dont love my girls. All are under 3 years old, except 12 that came from my friend who died and they get a pardon and will live out their lives here rent free we have mostly 20 weekers-2 year olds right now

Oh no worries - I call my slackers Lawn Ornaments - I must have about 20 at least - geriatrics that are toodling around bossing the youngsters about. And teaching them ‘the way of the chicken’.

Just because they no longer lay eggs most of the time doesn’t mean they are not useful. They teach the youngest about keeping an eye to the sky for predators, and put them in their place when they get unruly - I only have 3 Roos for 47 hens, one is my elderly Polish Roo - so the Roos can’t be everywhere- the old hens are the ones to help break up fights, and ensure they others don’t break any ‘chicken laws’.

Baby chicks are taught the way of the chicken even if the older hens have never raised chicks they still keep an eye on them and show them what to eat.

So even if they are not laying eggs they are still valuable - and they look pretty so that’s value there also!
