We did the 5 gallon bucket and hung it up.

the chickens are popping the nipples up and out of the bucket full of water or not.

What is wrong

You may have drilled the holes to big? what size are the nipples and what size hole did you drill? do you have a picture?

Its the inside pins that hang down below the bucket that they peck at, not they whole thing that is coming out and

falling on the ground ..

The chickens push the small inside pins up and out into the bottom of the bucket full of water with their beaks...

We are trying to just raise the bucket up higher.

Thank you for trying to help. I will have to figure out how to do the picture later if need be.

You have nipples that are designed to go in a 3/4" pipe or a 1" square tube (commonly used in Europe). Nipples like you apparently have are always factory installed unless it is a small repair/replacement job. The small diameter of the pipe restricts the upper movement of the pin and does not allow it to get out of the nipple body.
Selling them into a backyard poultry operation is irresponsible.

Sorry Ann, I misread your original post. I would replace them with a nipple that the pin doesn't come out unless taken apart.
