Chicken nipples......

That sounds wonderful..... especially right now as I am on crutches for 2-3 weeks.. the darned chicks won't stop scratching straw and hay into the water.. boy that fouls the water up REAL fast..

Do you really just screw the nipples directly on the bucket? On underneath of a hanging bucket or on lower side of bucket? Would they work on the usual 5 gal bucket from Lowes/HD?

SO, can they be installed directly on a 5 gal bucket?

Yes, only on the bottom not the sides as they must point straight down. On a round, or square, 5 gallon pail thre is no point in having more than four nipples. Usually the birds will not be able to use the fourth one if the bucket hangs against a wall. In that case you should plan the locatiion of the nipples so that the birds access to them is not impeded by the wall.

Thanks. I've not seen any four sided buckets available locally so I'm pretty much stuck with using the round buckets or have them shipped in which probably are way expensive.

Cat litter often comes in larger square buckets. A lot of folks use those empty buckets for nipple waters. Seem to work really well. I imagine that they also have a lid that seals up well and is easier to remove and replace.
