Just wanted to say hello and thank you for this site! We just started in the chic world with 6 Barred Rock chicks. I have lurked this forum sense Saturday. Lots of great info for folks just starting out! I have jumped in with both feet to insure our ladies have a great life! Need to start my coop and you all have given me great ideas...Thank You! Look forward to new friends and sharing our experiences!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Barred Rocks are a good, hardy, dependable breed that will give you lots of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your BRs.

So glad you joined.

I love my Barred Rocks!

Congrats on you new babies…better get going on the coop..you'll need it sooner than you expect.

Have fun, enjoy the little ones.

Thanks...yes we are glad we chose Barred due to our hard Montana winters and they seem to be a great all around breed! I am giddy with anticipation to get them grown and happy! I had a friend tell me to get started right away on the coop also

She said the time goes by quick!

That is a great idea..was thinking that we will end up with more than 6 by the time this is over. Was worried that too much space in the coop would be a pain to clean ( being it is bigger than 6 birds and they will poop all over). I suppose it will be messy even with more birds, but don't want to do more work for a smaller number of birds...I don't know if that makes sense??
