What is a good number of nesting boxes...is there a ratio?

https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/pictures-of-chicken-nesting-boxes-how-to-build-a-nest-box Not sure if you have seen it, but there is a nice article on nesting boxes in the Learning Center. Usually people go with 1 box for every 3/4 hens so any hen that needs one should be able to find an open one or one with a hen that will share, the hens are funny though they will tend to pick favorite boxes, and you might wind up with eight eggs in one box and none in another!

x2

It seems to help if you put a fake egg in the other nest too..... to encourage them to give the other nest a chance.... location, location, location !!!!! but Kelsie2290 is right there will be days when only ONE box will do lol

Hi from another new member! I bought 6 chicks last week and am making plans for a coop to hold twice as many. That way if I decide to keep them inside while I am at work they will have enough space. I am unsure of nearby predators yet.
