Hi, I have an Isa Brown hen that is about 2 yrs old (have had for 6 months and got as an ex free range farm layer)
She stood up high on a perch all day yesterday and did not get down. Eventually I took her down and bought her inside and put her in front of the heater. She is doing water clear like and yellow droppings, but not much. She isn't eating at all. I have put beef mince, cucumbers, free range seeds, bread, corn, just not interested at all. Comb is small but still red. Im really not sure what to do at all. Any suggestions would be appreciated. ps. Wormed and vaccinated, no lice or ticks or fleas and is normally free range, but inside the house in front of the heater at the moment.

Need more symptoms to get a diagnosis. Does she have a swellen, drooping abdomen? Still laying normally?

Hi, She is not laying. I dont think her abdomen is swollen. i can catch her very easily though, as shes still not moving. eyes closing a bit of the time too. she is a bit thin.thanks for your reply

You're welcom.
Sorry, I really don't know what happend to your bird, but I would suggest you try some antibiotics if she doesn't get any better..
I hope it's not the early stage of EYP.

Hi
What is eyp? sorry i dont know. havent had chickens for that long. I do have a chicken with peritonitus and had her drained at the vet last week. she is still alive and also inside in front of the heater. She has a dull comb though. She is on anti biotics and not got any better though. I have 3 other chickens that are all running around fine and they are ex battery hens and older.
thanks again.

Yeah, eyp is (Egg Yolk) Peritonitus as you said. Seems you've already have great success on treating EYP. Good job!
I really hope she will get much better.Looking forward to your good news.

thanks, hopefully these two live. im giving them collidal silver mixed with milk with a dropper to keep some nutrition in them. It's 5 degrees here at the moment, so thats why i have them in the house in front of the open fire. thanks again, ill let you know how it goes.

Maybe shes in some kind of shock?
Why dont you try and feed her in a different bowl in that room shes in?
If it doesnt work then put her in the middle of your garden/yard and see how that goes...
Or put her back in where she sleeps and see if that works (with water and food)

Hope this helps
