Chicken not laying in Coop

My Marans hen is not laying consistently in the nesting boxes, and we've tried everything. What do I do???

What have you tried?
Does she free range?
Please add a few photos / description of the laying nests, surroundings and where she prefers to lay.

We have tried keeping her in the coop for the whole day, and yes, she's free range. I'm sorry, i don't have any photos. She basically lays wherever she wants. Right now, she's laying in a pile of leaves.

Do you have fake eggs? How many hens, how many nests? What do your nests look like?

We used to use fake eggs, but not anymore. We have 5 hens, no rooster. Our nests look like 4 squares next to each other. We don't use 2 of them though.

It might help to lay fake eggs in the 2 favourite nest boxes. And make a third nest with a fake egg in the spot where the pile of leaves are, if its a dry spot.

What are / how do the squares look like? Are they covered? Is there bedding in it? Dry leaves are fine as bedding too.

A cat litter box is a good nest box. Or a square bucket on its side.

Why don't you use two of the nest boxes? What is the nesting material in the nest boxes? I'd put the fake eggs back in there.
