I have five pullets, they started laying about 2 weeks ago. Tonight when I got home, I found a tiny egg on the "poop board". One of the girls was not acting chicken like. She was very calm and stood away from the others. I picked her up and she just relaxed. A few minutes ago I checked on her and she had just laid a regular size egg but the shell was so soft I had egg everywhere. They are on layer feed, free choice oyster shells I always keep full. I put her in the coop and she just climbed on the roost. Ant ideas?

Welcome to BYC!

Not unusual for new layers to lay a soft shell egg...or thin shelled egg..or other oddities.

The softies can make them act kinda weird, it must feel strange.
They usually go right back to acting 'normal' once it's out.

Nothing to worry about....it can take up to a month of so for things to get 'tuned up'.

Thank you for the reassurance! I created a separate space for her, thinking the others would peck at her or something. Got up the next morning and she was back to her perky self!
