bottom line is startle response is more of a individual/situation thing rather than related to sex.
also add in they're..... silkies. sometimes regarded as being very stupid even by chicken standards. (here comes the rush of people saying silkies are smart...) also their vision are interfered by the crest and beard. sometimes the same situation will startle one so bad yet it won't react at all when it happens again, could be because it saw-ignored/couldn't see-freak out!
if she was a roo, she would show several not so silky and super shiny feathers sticking out of a much less puffy crest, probably have darker colored areas on wing, neck and back and more feathers in the tail with some parts not so silky(shredded).
also by the amount of red on her comb and wattles, she is going to start laying pretty soon-within a few weeks. if you stop trying to scare her, lol....
