Chicken oddities: what’s something you wish your chicken/chickens didn’t do?

Standing in their food dish + burying it under run litter when they start scratching nearby!!

They get fermented whole grain feed, which doesn’t lend itself to most commercial feeders, so I use heavy ceramic bowls. They don’t get tipped over, but boy, do they get pine needles and bark tracked in!

Yes!!! That’s another good one! I do the deep litter method and when I cleaned out the coop, I found 2 food dishes that was buried! Or I’ll pour them nice fresh food, and the first chicken to it, steps on the edge and feed flies everywhere. It wouldn’t be that bad, I know my chickens will handle it, but I HATE having chicken crumble in my shoes…although I’ve had worse lol.

Drink from and stand in the muddiest spot in the pen. I have white feather-footed chickens. Not a good combination!

My oldest are 10 weeks old and mine are:
Stop treating the waterer like a toilet

Eat the food on the ground since that's where you crazy chickens put it

And third . . .act like chickens . . . they're worse than my dogs with being under foot . . . I'm currently setting up their larger coop wielding large pieces of wood/lumber and running power tools and they are in the thick of it, lol.

I wish my chickens would NOT...

Eat cardboard, papers, hemp bedding, and most of all NOT hen mounting hen.

My biggest hen that does not lay egg, a bully and she mounts any hen standing near her.....this stress the flock out, so stressful.

I've had the majority of my hens for 2-3+ years. They see me every day. They hear me talk to them every day. They see the same food scoop EVERY. DAY.

For SOME reason the food scoop is spooking them. If I move a little too fast with it in my hands it's time to squawl and fly away.

Pooping in the nice ice block pans we give them several times a day to cool off. The pans are plastic and it can be hard to get that smell out (soaking in vinegar helps).

I was using a power drill on the outside of the coop and I was sure that would send everyone running in a panic to the other end of the coop. Nope. They all came over, led by the alpha, to investigate the sound.
