Today is the first morning for the 4 newest Little Barn chicks to move out to the coop. After finishing morning feeding, waiting for the early egg laying sqwacks to go off and tidying up the bin in the garage, I went out to the coop to find my chick, Sunny had burrowed under the little barn for safety. Big Sis Pancake can't keep her pecks under control! So now Pancake has won a Saturday stay in the garage. Our dog Martin warned her to stop the funny business but Pancake couldn't resist the constant teasing of the littles. I guess I'll try to return her to the coop tomorrow.

Peanut, Sunny, Butter and Trooper are 8 weeks old. Yesterday they decided they want to live outback forever!

Well if she is only pecking I'd not lock her up at all and let them figure out the flock dynamic...

Well your not helping by separating them. As long as no blood is shed its normal introduction.

What you need is more than one escape (under the barn) for the little ones. Pallets up on cement blocks on the short side, mini walls, hideouts and mulitple feed stations.

Thanks Mrs. K- The floor of the coop has many escapes with cement block risers, some hardware cloth raised divider wall halves, and hideouts. I returned Pancake with her sisters and just have to get use to the little ones hiding out a bit. They do seem to handle the craziness of the chase, hide and run better than I do when I watch.We also have 2 water areas and a third arrives tomorrow and the food is plentiful in two locations. I'm so thankful for the support from BYC to get us through this transition.
