Does anyone have a method, short of fencing, to discourage free chickens from sitting on the front step, leaving a mess?

If you come up with an answer, let us all know! At any given time free range chickens will investigate every square inch of your yard... Just watch what they will do to your mulch and flower beds.... Normal behavior.

Fence the area you don't want them in...but leave the gate open one second and their curious minds will lead them there.
