Chicken owner from the suburbs

I recently went and bought a chicken for my six year boy

Sad to say there was a six chicken minimum so we ended up with six

Now I knew we needed a coop and a local friend gave us one that looked like it was for rabbits more than chickens

So I knew I needed to make a new on for them

I did some minor research online and learned they like to be up high and need a run but like to be free roam as well if the Yard is safe for them

So I set out to build a knew coop! Burnt the old coop and am looking to make my chickens even happier!

My coop is finished structurally and I'm looking for tips as my chics to. It produce eggs yet

What should I make in my coop. Suggestions are welcome and I'd love to share pics of the coop!

Looks like you did a good job! Congrats.
Make sure you are offering them grit on the side to help break up all those treats you offer.
I see one rooster in your pics. has he started to crow yet?

how old are your chickens? We use wood shavings in our coop and the hens seem to like it fine. I would highly suggest you nail some boards across it as would give the hens some roosting place. mine always sleep roosting on the boards.

Also, are you including the whole structure as your coop? (very nice by the way!)If so, you should provide food and water.

I got chicken grit and chic caterer level two

They r about two months old now. Two and a half probably better estimate

I didn't realize one is a rooster. Probably the dark brown one. He has a green tail feather

The whole structure in blue is the new coop! Just finished the fencing and found the white ladders on the side of the road. Propped them in for the chics to roost on

I've got water in a metal canister from the local feed store. Circular base that can sit on a heating block in the winter

I don't think I'm using it right or the chics don't drink from it because I find them drinking Yard water when it puddles in the kids toys in the sandbox

They love the sandbox house


That's my dog watch rounding up the hens. He is five pounds and loves the chics

No chickens were harmed in the. Holding of this coop which the base is approximately 8'2" by 4'6", but I did have to tell the black chic there not to eat my screws!

Please check around building site often. Chickens are attracted to anything shiny and will gobbble up nails, screws, bolts before you can holler "NO!!!"
