Hi fellow chicken owners. I’m writing a posting for my gardening blog on who owns chickens and why. I reached out to the USDA for information on this subject, but they haven't really collected any information on backyard chicken keepers.
If you own chickens, please let me know a little bit about how many you own and why by taking the Backyard Chicken Survey. It will only take a few minutes and I'd really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance!

Ha ha, not very UK friendly, and not a mention of Practical Poultry magazine which is the one I get over here.

Hi there, I have 16 hens, mostly sex-link hens but a few interesting mutts too.
Originally I did it purely for eggs, having moved to acreage in the country after a life as a city girl.
I don't bathe, fluff or dress up my chickens in diapers or sweaters, as some do, but I thoroughly
enjoy watching them doing silly chicken things "au naturel" as they scratch and run around on the property.
The yummy eggs are a definite bonus and I even sell a few at the end of my driveway to help pay for their food.
A note of caution when raising chickens for eggs ... They are not cost effective and they are probably going to be the most expensive eggs you'll ever eat.
But well worth it on many other levels.

Took it. There are local websites that I frequent that were not included, but maybe you just wanted the major ones.
