So, yesterday the chickens were happily devouring some scratch I had thrown out, when suddenly about half of them turned and raced down the path to the duckhouse. The other half soon joined them. And I went for the camera.

Examining the nest box:

Tearing up the bale of straw:

Roosting and scratching:

And the drake says, "Hey, what's going on in here?"

Silly trespassing chickens!

Thanks, Animallover!

It cracks me up how the chickens love the duckhouse, and the ducks hang out in the chicken run. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence...

Awwwwwww.............................

What a bunch of pretty girls! Good photos, nice sunny day!

So, the ducks are playing "chicken", and the chickens are "ducking out"?

ranchhand - I always like the way you put things! Yes, the ducks play chicken. We call them "funny-footed chickens". And the chickens do duck out, every single day! Sometimes a few try to sleep in the duck house, too.

playswithfowl - Thanks for the compliment on the duckhouse! I just love it. In fact, the ducks are the only ones who aren't particularly impressed with it. They want to sleep outside, and must be bribed in at night with treats. Here's hoping that Mocha decides to lay her eggs in there when the time comes...

CityGirlintheCountry - I wonder if Mr. Smartypants is really saying, "Cool, I have 20 women now!"
