During quarantine I bought two chickens and raised them together for 1 year and 3 months until last night one of my chickens passed after an attack. Will this effect my other chicken?

Let me start off by saying I am so sorry for your loss. :hugs :hugs Kudos to you for trying to learn what effect this might have on your remaining hen.

Yes, it will definitely effect your remaining chicken.

First your chicken will grieve the loss of its partner and friend. Expect it to be less energetic. It may not eat well for a time. Very similar to humans when grieving.

Secondly, chickens are not meant to live alone. The are flock animals. You should never have just one. You need to get your chicken another friend.

When we first got chickens, we suffered through a similar situation. We had two, lost one to a hawk attack. Got another and then lost the other original to an egg laying problem. So we got another. They need to have a friend so they can be a flock.

So sorry for your loss.

@BY Bob has given you excellent input...chickens are flock animals and do much better with others of their own kind. Find your single bird a couple of friends, and read up on integration so they will learn to get used to each other.

Best wishes.

@Plutopunk when you get that new friend for your hen I will be glad to help with your integration. I have become a pro at it over the years.

I am so sorry. We have had one who lost a best friend (we still had a whole flock).
Every morning for a while, she got up and searched for her friend, making little crying sounds. It was heart breaking. Like humans she had to grieve for a while and over time things got better and she became closer to some of the other birds.
Good luck with finding her a friend. :hugs
