Chicken pecking eyes

When my chicks (3-4 weeks old) are on my shoulder they try to peck my eyes. I found out the hard way. One pecked me unexpectedly and came less than 1/8" from my eye ball! They also try to eat my hair.

Is this common?

Chickens like to peck at shiny things. Mine don’t get to be that close to my face.

This is why many of us don't allow chickens anywhere near our face. They'll also rip out earrings.

They are just curious little things. Don’t encourage it but they aren’t trying to be mean
