Chicken pecking

I have 5 BO's and 3 BA's that chase and peck my white leghorn roo. The roo is 1 month younger than the rest and not near the size. I have the roo in a separate cage in the coop on the floor. He has been there for about 1 month. I though by now they would better acquainted. The larger chickens don't seem to be bothered by him till they get close. As soon as they approach the little guy freaks and starts running and that is when the pecking starts. What should I do? He is a beautiful bird and I hate to loose him.

Would it be possible to set up chicken wire in the pen that he could get into, and the others couldn't because of thier size? Kind of a coop within the coop.

That would be very easy to do. I will give it a try. I have nothing to loose at this point. Thanks for the reply. John
