Hello! While I have never owned chickens, my SO did as a kid growing up and he was thrilled when we moved in to our new house a few months ago and we got a big ole chicken coop with it. In the next couple weeks we are going to be getting our chicks, a whopping 25 of them!

Hopefully I can keep getting more information on brooding them all and caring for them!

:welcome Read the forum Raising Baby Chicks to prepare yourself; you need to have a brooder, heat (recommend reading MHP by Blooie) & enjoy. You'll also need to check the existing Coop, predator proof above all, those chicks will OUT GROW the brooder pretty fast. You may want to keep them in the first week to observe, then move them out to the coop IF it's secure. They need heat until fully feathered, using the MHP it has been done. It's a must read thread.

Browse thru the forums, any questions ask, BYC Members are helpful & informative, some very experienced. Enjoy your chicks and new adventure ...

Funny you mention the MHP...it’s the whole reason I joined! We spent the day hooking power back up to the coop and evaluating our needs to re-proof it against predators. During the past two years of not being in use, both windows got broken and it needs a good cleaning. Thank you for your advice!

Greetings and welcome to BYC! So glad you joined us. There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

Oh, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. Old folks like me :old will never remember & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!
