I honestly am not sure where to ask this question.

I have been raising quail for about 4 months so I'm new to poultry. Anyway...last week while feeding my quail in the morning I turned around and I had a chicken hen following me. I gave her some food and took a couple pictures that my wife put on FB and asked a couple people up the road with chickens if she was theirs. Everyone is saying she's not theirs. It's been a week and she literally will show up out of no where and disappears about as fast. I've searched around the house thinking she had a nest under one of the bushes. I've been told I can't keep chickens and quail together so I've just been throwing her some feed every other morning when she shows up. Can a chicken live in the wild by itself? There are a couple marks on her neck. I'm thinking something may have drug her off and she escaped now doesn't know how to get back home? My wifes been wanting me to pen her up. She's very friendly and doesn't seem to be afraid of me or my kids when she shows up. Can chicken survive on it's own. I live in the country so I'm kind of afraid something's going to get her if we don't do something. Like I said with the quail I'm not sure I can keep her but don't want something to happen either.

A chicken can most definitely not survive on its own in the wild. I would try to catch her and take care to the scratches on her neck. Then, if you can't keep her yourself, maybe get one of the people on your street to take her.

If she isn't given a secure coop and run, something will eventually kill her.
Chickens obviously need far more space than quail.

I’ve never heard that chickens and quail don’t mix but I know nothing about quail. I do know that chicken math will take over if you decide to keep her. Chickens gotta have friends, right!?

Goldie is a fine looking hen! Y’all are gonna enjoy her company for years I’m sure. She picked you to be the one. Embrace chickeness!
