Chicken Questions????

I have a couple questions about chickens. What tipes of plants do chickens like best
(sort of like catnip except for chickens)? Can two or more roosters be in the same coop
without fighting? In your opinion what tipe of chicken is the best?In your opinion how many chickens are to many?:idunno

I don't have chickens, but :/

Chickens basically eat most of the stuff people do. Avocado is poisonous to parrots, I don't know about chickens.

Yes, but they have to have a certain amount of space and hens (Most of the time a rooster for every 8-10 hens)

I love silkies and australorp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY BE AWESOME!!!!!

If you don't like fluff, though, I suppose you won't like silkies, but australorps are awesome anyways.

Many people would say that there is no such thing as too many chickens... But too many is, for anything, more than you can take care of.

Hope my stupidity helped! I don't have chickens, but I do LOTS of insane research! :)

I agree about silkies being awesome - I right now have a silkie chick on on hand! The typing is very interesting. Austerlops are too - I really want one!

And, by the way, I saw nothing stupid in your answer

Thats a hard question to answer, and it really depends on the hen. A lot of people say Silkies and Cochins are really good mothers, yet whenever mine tried to hatch a clutch of eggs they ended up killing the chicks. Both breeds I found here horrible mothers. The only hen I have who successfully raised a clutch of eggs was a Silver Sebright, and they aren't even supposed to be good mothers. OEGs I've also found to be decent.

I agree/disagree with some of this. I agree that some broodies will kill the chicks - but I have heard it happen more often with other breeds that silkies and cochins. I think that part really depends on each hen, not any breed. My silkie is a dedicated broody who right now has a batch of chicks she raised. She clucks to tell the chicks she found a worm and keeps them under her feathers when they get chilly. She showed her chicks how to drink and eat and ways put them first. All eggs but one hatched, but she rolled around that egg where ever she went for the first two days and kept it warm. She is terrific keeping them safe and screams if she is taken away from her babies. My friends silkie even adopted some chicks that she didn't even hatch. I hardly call that horrible.

I also agree about sebrights and Old English being good mothers, as most bantams make great mothers.
