Chicken ranching versus chicken farming?

I saw a documentry about the Chicken Rance on TV. I looked REALLY close, even rewound it a few times.
Nope not one single chicken on the whole place.

If you only have one thing like only chickens or only cows living off the land I would see that as a ranch. If you diversify or are growing or otherwise providing food for the livestock you are farming.

Small ranch or ranchette in winter as only chickens working. Summer farmstead since we have garden going then too. Confused you some more did I.

But is it for sale to the public. If the garden is just for private use it would still be a ranch. If it all is private use it is a homestead.

My wife and I have quite a dilemma on our hands. We don't know if raising chickens is considered "farming" or "ranching". I operate a grain farm, and a cattle ranch.....but where exactly do chickens fall. Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
