Chicken ranging

I have about a little more than half an acre fenced for free ranging. My question is that enough for 31 chickens and should i mow it?

That sounds like an awesome amount of space! If you don't mow will it become a haven for rodents and snakes? How you answer that will give you the best answer to your question about mowing.

I would wait and see how/what the chickens do with the space. I have 5 hens that are allowed on my fenced property of about 3 acres. We mow our yard area of course, but always leave the side field for them to browse through (way past knee high currently). We're certainly not overun with rodents or animals of any kind (other than pets...lol). If you did end up mowing it, I would do it on your highest setting, JMO. Or mow a patch and leave the rest. Watch and see which they prefer (maybe it'll be both).
