I keep my coop inside my dog run (dogs never used it) I let them out everyday to eat and stretch their wings. They keep jumping on the coop and flying up to the fence. Or flying from one side to the other. The fence on my side I am not concerned about, but the fence on my neighbors side I worry they will fall over. Behind the yard which is not fenced in is a creek with a big sewer pipe. I put some lattice up and they are jumping on the lattice. I clipped their wings, but I feel like they keep growing back. They are almost 21 weeks older. How can I get them to stop? If I open my gate so they can go in my yard

(fenced in) will they just stay there? I want them to roam more but I’m scared to leave them out while I’m at work.

Looks like pullet can get about and over fence with only 18" hops which even proper wing clipping will not stop. If properly clipped though, then she will not be able to get back over from other side.

I referred to her as a pullet which mean she has gone through two and possibly three wing feather sets since she hatched. Now at 20 weeks she should be in the wing feather set that will be maintained though next summer so now is the time to clip.

See link below for proper method of clipping wings.

Thanks!!

If I do this, should I have them facing more towards my property and not straight up. What if they jump and land on them?
You will want to point them towards you. I think they are smarter then to jump on them, but maybe you can show them the spikes or something. Like pick them up, and scrape them long there feet or something. They are pretty smart.

Yes they are pretty smart! I will try that! I just don’t want them to get over and get scared and run to the sewer. If it wasn’t for that I would care. My neighbors think that are cool so they don’t mind them.
