I have a small Frizzle banty who I raised from a baby. She was always picked on from the other chickens because she was so small as was her sister who I got at the same time. I tried everything to make them safe but they really wanted out with the others so one day I decided to do it. They seemed fine at first but an hour later I went out to check on them and the little brown one, named kelly was hurt so bad she died within minutes. It was hard to see her injury but after looking over her carefully I found a deep wound where her kidney was. It was so sad, Frizzle looked all over for her for days. The other chickens never would accept her but she wantted to be with them so bad that I kept her out there with them. In the winter they would peck at her and she lost so many feathers that I made a sweater for her. But she was happiest being out there with the other hens.

As time went on the other larger chickens died off, all but Kizzle and one other old hen we call Gracy. One day we decided to get some more bantys for fresh eggs and enjoyment. They are so fun to watch. As they got older we built them a hen house to stay in until it was safe to let them go out in the back yard. We also found out that out of the 6 chickens their was one rooster. It was so funny watching him try to crow. But as he got louder we were worried so we got a rooster collar for him, and after a few adjustments it worked pretty well. Several times we put Frizzle in with he coup and he fought with her but she would win.

Later we removed the pen we built and let them run free. But we were still worried about Frizzle since she is now 8 years old and looks it. They did get into a few brawls but eventually the rooster won and that was that. We thought. One day I went out to check on them and found the rooster, we call him Rip, mating with Frizzle. Amazing! She is 8 years old and he is 6 months. I ran in the house all excited but once that died down I started thinking, wait a minute, she is 8 years old and doesn't even have enough bottom feathers to cover babies, let alone some chicks. Oh, I forgot to tell you but she suddenly started laying eggs again about 2 years ago, which was a little unsettling then, but cool. So I thought, well, surely something else is going to happen to surprise us and it did. I went out to do some watering and couldn't find Rip or Frizzle when I heard some clucking in the hen house house. I saw that the other chickens were somewhere else so I looked in and found Rip busy making a nest next to Frizzle who is sitting on a nest she made clucking. It was something out of "The Color Gray" I tell you. I can't wait to see what happens next to this happy couple that reminds me of "Harrold and Maude."

I have an old--5 years old, almost--white banty cochin. She looks awful--crooked beak, missing tail feathers, dirty feet--but the rooster still insists on mating with her, poor thing. Your rooster needs to teach mine some lessons. Haha.
