Chicken Rookies

Howdy,
My name is Mike. My daughter and I have been researching and preparing for chickens for some months now. I've gathered lots of information, but thought it was time to chime in and share a few things.
My daughter is 12 and this chicken experience has been great. We spent tons of time researching breeds, feed, coops, poops, and everything else.
Just 8 days ago, we got our new baby chicks.
Originally wanted 4 or 5. We read that we may lose a baby, and that the sexing is only 90% accurate from the hatchery, so we settled on 7 (we can't have roosters in city limits.)
We have 3 Ameraucanas and 4 Buff Orpingtons. They are doing great.

We have been building the coop together, and call it "chicken time." The design came from my head, based on other pictures, drawings, dimensions, and necessity of location.

Thanks for all of the great information.
Mike
Welcome. Hi I'm Ellie and very new to all of it! Have you hatched any? I can't navigate in here yet really. I'm alone and think I've done something that might have put my eggs in jeaperdy. Do you have much experience?

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Best wishes and good luck!
