chicken run floor

Hi was wanting advice about my chicken run. We have a fully open run and live in N.Ireland where it rains. A lot!!! The ground gets very muddy and wondered was there anything I could put down to help absorb so us and the chickens aren't ankle deep in mud?? We have heard wood chip would be good, has anyone tried this? Any suggestions welcome.

Wood chips, straw, or lay plywood sheets down to knock down the mud.

I use pine shavings. Worked for me.
