Flooring idea for muddy run - something permanent

How often do you shovel it out? I added pine bark nuggets today and they really liked scratching that around.
Honestly it mostly breaks down or gets tracked out. I haven't had to shovel it out yet. The beautiful thing is every time it dries out its like sawdust again. It doesn't pack down into nasty moldy mats like shavings and straw.

This is my first mud season using pine pellet bedding and I'm sold on it. It soaks up the mud and basically turns into sawdust. Then it slowly dries out. Next time it rains it soaks up the water again. It doesn't pack down like shavings and turn into a solid moldy mat. Easy to sweep up or shovel out of/when needed.
Do you have link for this? I'm looking for a way to soak up some water from recent rains and this sounds like a great solution.

Is there a spot you can dig a small trench on the outside of the run that will let the water out before you get mud in the run? I get it, my run is also covered but still get sideways rain and water that comes up from the ground in the wet season.
If your run is getting mud wet adding material to it will help but the original problem will still exist. Adding more and more stuff is only going to add up to a thick layer of yuck.
My advice for a muddy run is as always Ditched, Dams, Drains, Gutters and Roofs.
