I'm just about done farming my son's coop and run. Right now the ground is grass but from what I understand, the grass won't last long. Any advice on what the ground should consist of? I've seen sand, hay, etc. is it just a personal preference or are some better than others?
Thank you,
Ed
Leave it as grass. Depending on the number of chickens you will keep. If not many. the grass wont get wiped out all that quick. When it does, then you can put whatever you decide. Everyones situation can be different. Some factors may be cost. while also availability can play a role. There are also as many opinions about what to put, as to what the others are using. YOUR GOAL IS TO HAVE RUN DRY. Understandably, during rain it will get wet. You want it to drain well and as quick as reasonable after rains stop. If you could keep the grass growing there , it would be the ideal. JMO.
