I have been known to hide in the coop during a rain storm

Old thread, Pets are family!
Yes they are .
The house came with a large homemade (and nicely done) dog run. The floor is made up of a relatively thick layer of smooth rounded pea gravel. this is fine for a run ..will you be letting them out of it ? to free range as chickens love grass & bugs ...you will find where the grass grows into the run they will eat it off . if you decide to let them out ..let them get used to the run and coop before you do this
To protect them especially at night, I would want to build a coop with a fully enclosed caged section where they can roam a little but have extra protection from predators like birds of prey and badgers.a coop that is solid and closed with hardware cloth over windows should be secure . Make it too big for them and they will have extra room .
QUESTION: Should I worry about hens attempting to fly out of the enclosed run with as high as it is? Chickens are more likely to fly over something if they see something they want ...For instance they fly over my garden fence and over into the baby run for some tasty baby food ....or to follow a bug / moth
QUESTION: Does this setup sound like a decent one for urban chickens (for those who keep chickens and aren't on a farm or rural property)? Any other advice or suggestions?
if you are concerned about Aerial Predators you could partiality cover the part of the run that is not blocked by trees etc ( with a tarp or netting ) or trim the trees back so a tarp or netting could be put on the top .
Thanks!
