I would think 2-3' high would be fine for the chickens. They will soon learn not to jump after banging their heads a few times Hopefully you have some access doors that you can reach in with a rake for cleaning it though.

I free range my birds, so their not in their 4ft run all that much.

make sure it's tall enough to stand in. We have had several times we had to corral the girls in for an incoming storm.

you are so right. I builded my run 4 feet high, and its hard on my back when I have to clean it. I'm building a 6 feet high one in the spring.
