I had posted recently about trying a chicken saddle on one of my hens as she has always been sparse on her back and the sun is beating on it.
So, it came in the mail yesterday and we tried it on her toward the evening...of course, she did the antics I expected like walking backward and hopping a bit around. I purposely put out mealworms to be a distraction for her and the others, in case they thought it was weird.
She calmed down and they all started eating the worms...and then one of the hens started chasing her and pecking on the saddle! Tried this for a bit with distracting the attacking hen but she kept it up. Wasn't gonna leave them overnight, so we took it off and things went right back to normal! The mean hen is my boss hen...I'm almost certain. I call her the Pecker as she has pecked at me here and there but will also go after the dogs if she thinks they need correcting!
What is the best way to do this chicken saddle thing?
