Chicken Saddles

I see some people use them for there chickens when they are laying but would like to know the absolute purpose for them.

I think it's less to do with laying than being bred.

It protects their backs if the rooster is overzealous in breeding.

Saddles are for over-bred hens, molting hens (sometimes even roosters!), and people who want to say they dress up their chickens tiny bad dogs.

I'm keeping it on my girl because I may possibley want to show her at he fair in June, and I'd like to keep her as clean as possible.
