I run 6 hens with 1 cockeral. 3 hens are very bald I carnt find any mites or bugs on them so im taking it its feather damage from the cockeral. I think that saddles are for this? I looked on ebay for them and they are £6 each. Are they any good and do the hen generaly get used to wearing them? How long does it take for there feathers to grow back? Has any on made these? if so would you be so kind to give me some sizes so that I could make my own as £18 to me is alot of money at the moment. Many thanks.

OUCH! Poor girls! You might want to pen your roo separately (or the two hens) until you can get saddles for them.
You might check auction prices here on the BYC site - they seem very reasonable. Also, here's on link on how to make your own: http://backtobasicliving.com/blog/make-a-chicken-saddle/
Some hens do very well with saddles and some not so much. Hopefully yours will do well. I'm not sure how long it takes to regrow the feathers, but I'd think if your roo is using these two hens that often, these two should probably wear their saddles most of the time anyway, even after feathers have regrown???

we have a cochin that looks about the same. We got a saddle and paid $12.00 for it plus shipping and it did not fit her right and just slide off the backside. We brought her in and put her in a tote but now we are worried that we will have problems after she heels in putting her back with the others. Now I am going for reviews and was surprised and the number of different styles.
