Chicken safe pool/pond

So I am in the process of putting in the pool pond for the ducks. Got the whole dug and the rest of my supplies will arrive tomorrow. Adding drain and water inflow to plastic pool. Well last night I just sat the pool in and let it feel with water. They've been very happily playing in it all day. Well I went out and one of the chickens drowned. What can I do to make it safe for the chickens? Would concrete steps work?View attachment 1709414

So sorry for your loss How deep is it? Do the chickens use a ramp to get in and out of the coop? If so that would be best. Also, half empty 5 gal bucks are even more dangerous.

This is why it is not advised to keep ducks and chickens together. The chickens are to young to be around a pool of that size. If your ducks are the same age as the chicks(about) then you can just fill up the pool occasionally and do supervised swims. I would get that pool out of there

I never let my chicks around where the waterfowls pool is just way to dangerous. Even with a mama hen.

I am wondering what to do as well. I was thinking of only having the pool out when I am out there with them. I would have a shallow container for the ducks when they are with the chickens. Could the chicken just not get out of the pool?

Most likely they would drown they aren’t water proof at all.

Yes i just think it was too steep.
The place we are building our house has a big pond. They will be free roaming near that so hopefully they learn. For now I've decided to build one that is easier to get in/out of.
