Chicken Sanctuaries?

There is a sanctuary near Denver that takes unwanted cockerels/roosters. However, you also have to give them all your female chickens and sign an agreement not to get any more chicks. They also don't believe in taking eggs from hens and feed them all back to the chickens. They are extreme in my opinion.

That being said, I don't there are many long term options for unwanted cockerels or roosters. I thank mine for the meal they provide and put them in the freezer.

That does sound extreme but I get what they're trying to do... they want to deter people from making more chicks and perpetuating the cycle. And if that's how their policy is, then that's how it goes.

The sad reality is roosters are one of the most unwanted animals out there. The only "sanctuary" I know of is a working farm, and the donated roos get to live a lovely life until they become dinner.

Oh I have no problem if that’s what they want to do. I call them extreme because they believe no person (including backyard keepers who love their birds) should eat eggs. They claim people see the egg as a super food because of “media manipulation” and that eating eggs is the number one cause of heart disease in America.

poor roosters really have it bad. this sort of tragedy is not worth all the egg products in the world imo

I’ve put out multiple ads on my social media and tried to convince some people I know to take the roosters. No luck, but if they don’t get a home, then we will probably process them ourselves.
